About Porcelain Glazed
Currently the most popular type of indoor floor tile on the market. The tile is made from porcelain clays but glazed for aesthetic effect and to eliminate the need for sealing. Glazed porcelain tiles are dense, strong, and may require cutting with a wet saw. They are also suitable for walls. Some glazed porcelain can be used outdoors, even in heavy traffic areas. Glazed porcelain tiles frequently possess a 'rectified' or square edge, which is achieved by cutting or grinding the edges off the tile. This allows for the precise control of the dimension and squareness of the tile thereby facilitating the use of minimal grout spacing to be used. The aesthetic benefit is that, by cutting off the rounded shoulder of the tile which has not been printed on, the printed pattern or colour appears to extend to the very edge.
