About Hand Painted Basins
Belmondo range of beautiful, hand-painted basins are designed to co-ordinate with the tiles from our "Puebla", "Delft" and "La Jardin Provencal" collections.
All designs shown are Belmondo originals. They are hand-painted on the finest French ceramic basins by our award-winning ceramic artist using lead free glazes and fired in state of the art kilns in Sydney.
LAVENDER WATER BASIN - combines the motifs from the 'Provencal' and 'Lavender' borders from La Jardin Provencal Collection of wall tiles. This style is decorative and much of the enjoyment and enthusiasm of the look is expressed in the use of pattern. The feel should be relaxed and unaffected.
SUMMER FLOWER BASIN - incorporates many of the decorative elements of the 'Summer Flower' series from La Jardin Provencal Collection of wall tiles. The colour palette of French Provincial decor was taken from the surrounding environment - yellows and orange, greens, rusty red and blues from azure to cobalt, as were the themes and motifs, executed in a simple, unpretentious manner.
PUEBLA BASIN 1 and 2 - incorporates design elements of the 'Aztec Bird' series (Dove & Toucan), plus several of the 'Puebla Floral' series (#4, 5, 12).
The name "Puebla" comes from the 16th century Mexican city famous for its ceramic tiles and pottery. The lively painting style characteristic of this area displays European, Chinese and Middle Eastern influences, interpreted in a naively vivid fashion.
TALAVERA BASIN 1 and 2 - incorporates design elements of the 'Puebla Floral' series (#3 + border & corner) interpreted in a free flowing, organic style. Early in the 16th century craftsmen from Seville and Talavera in Spain migrated to Mexico and established potteries in Puebla where maiolica tiles and other ceramic wares were made. These products became known as Talavera ware.
DELFT BASIN 1 and 2 - At the beginning of the 17th century Holland began importing porcelain from China. Millions of pieces were shipped to Amsterdam. Soon the Dutch potters began imitating the popular Chinese decorations. This gave rise to the distinctive "Delft Blue" pottery, which became so famous that the name of the town where it was produced became a generic term for all earthenware painted in that blue, even if they were not made in Delft.
AMSTERDAM BASIN - has been painted to co-ordinate with several of the tiles in the Delft Collection - Tulip, Lily, Pheasant and Water Hen. In its subject matter and execution this design displays Chinese and Turkish, as well as national stylistic influences.
